Take part in a study about a new online log-in device to receive a £30 gift voucher

23 January 2019

We are interested in getting your views on a new type of device which is now available on the consumer market and can be used as a way to log in to online accounts.

Log-in device research

We invite you to take part in a study where you would access online services using this new log-in device (provided by us). The study is being run by researchers in the Computer Science department at UCL.

What's in it for me?
Each participant will receive a £30 Amazon or Love2shop voucher on completion of the study.

I know nothing about online log-in devices, can I still participate?
Yes, no prior experience with online log-in devices is required. The researcher will explain how the online log-in device works.

What do I need to do?
You will be asked to attend a briefing interview where you will be shown how to set up and use the device with a computer to access your online accounts. You will then be asked to use the device as part of your regular online activities, and complete diary forms regularly for one week. After the week of regular use, you will be asked to attend a debriefing interview to discuss your experiences of using the device.

Briefing and debriefing interviews will be conducted at UCL’s main campus in London during working hours. They will take up to one hour and will be completely confidential. Interviews will be audio-recorded and subsequently transcribed, and kept under a participant number so that participants cannot be identified.

Who is qualified to participate?
Participants must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • live in the UK

I'm interested, what's next?
Please complete this pre-screening questionnaire.
If we are able to include you in the study, we will contact you within seven days.

All data collection, processing and storage by the researchers is in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK Data Protection Act 2018. No personal information will be held after the study. We will store data from the study under a participant code instead of personal information, and you will not be identifiable from any publications which are produced from the study.

This study has received an approval from University College London Research Ethics Committee (no: 5336/010). For an Information Sheet, or if you have any questions about this study, please contact Stéphane Ciolino.
