Support race equality work!

15 August 2019

Are you in a Grade 7+ Professional Services role? We are looking for mentors for our B-MEntor Professional Services initiative for black and minority ethnic staff.

Support race equality work!

Earlier this year we launched a pilot of B-MEntor Professional Services – a cross-institutional London mentoring scheme for Professional Services staff from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds. There has been a great deal of interest in the scheme and we now need to recruit more mentors to match the level of interest from mentees.

Mentors should be Professional Services staff; grade 7+; of any ethnic background and in any Professional Services role. All our mentees identify as black or minority ethnic.

What does the scheme include?

  • One compulsory induction training session – in the autumn term
  • Your offering at least six one-to-one mentoring sessions with your matched mentee
  • End of year celebration social

Please complete a mentor expression of interest form and send it to us by 30 September 2019

What is B-MEntor?

This pilot builds on the success of the B-MEntor scheme for BME academic and research staff, which has been in existence for a number of years. Both schemes aim to match mentees with mentors from partner institutions, enabling them to strengthen their professional skills and improve their networking capability through the cultivation of cross-institutional relationships.

The scheme supports UCL’s work to progress race equality under the Race Equality Charter.

B-MEntor is distinct from the Inclusive Advocacy initiative, which offers a sponsorship relationship where both the ‘Advocate’ and the ‘Protégé’ are UCL employees.

What institutions are participating in B-MEntor Professional Services?

The scheme is being run in partnership with Queen Mary University London; King’s College London; St George’s University; City, University of London; University of East London; and University of the Arts London.
