Take a staff member out to talk about improving the student learning experience over a free cup of coffee

22 February 2018

Throughout February and March, UCL ChangeMakers is running a campaign to bring students and staff together to fuel conversations about improving the student learning experience.

Cup of Coffee Campaign

Great ideas start with a cup of coffee. With a warm cup of the tried-and-trusted creativity chemical (or alternative beverage) on the house, you are encouraged to think about the ways to improve your academic experience and to approach a member of staff to discuss your ideas.

Over a cup of coffee, you can exchange perspectives with a member of staff on teaching, academic support and wellbeing and discuss the possibility of collaborating on a UCL ChangeMakers project.

Why a cup of coffee?

We want to strike the balance between enabling a more informal and light-hearted interaction between students and staff and respecting time-pressures and professional boundaries.

Coffee coasters with campaign instructions will be distributed in the partnered cafes on campus. Pick up a coaster and use it as an invitation token and as space to write a very brief overview of what you would like to discuss with a staff member to ensure that the conversations are purposeful. There are instructions on the coaster to claim a voucher for drinks in a participating café for up to £5.

The vouchers are valid for the duration of the campaign: Monday 19 February to Wednesday 28 March 2018.

How does it work?

Find the coasters in any one of the cafes on campus: scan the QR code on the back to download your voucher from Eventbrite where you will be asked for your name, student ID and the topic you would like to discuss. The printed voucher will be valid in any cafe on campus if you're accompanied by a member of staff.

You can also download a voucher online.

What is UCL ChangeMakers?

UCL ChangeMakers is about collaboration and innovation to enhance the UCL learning experience. Students and staff work together to make changes for the benefit of everyone in the UCL community.

This is primarily done through:

· UCL ChangeMakers Projects: Student and staff partnership projects to innovate, enhance or improve the learning experience at UCL through fully supported and funded projects.

· Support for ASER Intensive Departments: ChangeMakers offers ASER Intensive departments the opportunity to work with a student acting as an ASER facilitator and to undertake a project on Assessment and Feedback.

· Student Reviewers/ Peer Dialogue: Student Reviewers and staff engage in dialogue about teaching and the learning experience of students on a course.

See the UCL ChangeMakers website for more information about what they do and example projects.

Deadlines for project proposals:

• Early Summer Deadline: 6 April 2018

• Summer Deadline: 15 June 2018
