26 October 2017

A short documentary film produced by UCL students as part of the

IWM com/" target="_self">Know it Wall initiative has been shortlisted for the 2017 Imperial War Museum Short Film Festival.

'The invisible killer of World War I' will be screened at the Imperial War Museum between 17 and 26 November. It was directed by Amanda Alfaro Córdoba (PhD candidate in Spanish & Latin American Studies), produced by Miguel Dos Santos (PhD candidate in Philosophy) and edited by Jo Pester (MA student in Fine Art Media) and Emily Houslow (BA student in European Social and Political Studies), with research by Charlotte Holtum (Neuroscience BSc graduate) and camera by Bex Jones (Digital Anthropology MSc graduate).

Miguel Dos Santos, who is also co-founder of KiW, said: 'This is a major milestone for us. Only relatively recently did we start experimenting with film, and now The Invisible Killer of World War I - written by a historian of science whose aim is to popularise ongoing research in bioengineering - has been shortlisted for a festival that received almost 700 entries and will be screened at the Imperial War Museum in London. It's very all very exciting really, and certainly a testament to the need for UCL to make more resources available for public engagement activities which engage both students and academics.'

KiW is a public engagement website, based at UCL, that aims to popularise research across all disciplines, from the humanities to the sciences. It works closely with academics, who write 1,000-word texts on their research for KiW, and creates content - in the form of podcasts, documentaries as well as short articles - worth sharing with the wider public.
