Earlier this week, students and staff from across UCL, gathered at The Venue (Student Central) to celebrate the achievements and successes of UCL's staff.

The UCL Teaching Awards ceremony was comprised of the Provost's Teaching Awards and the UCLU Student Choice Teaching awards.

Provosts' Teaching Awards

The Provosts' Teaching Awards, now in it's tenth year, highlights the excellence of staff throughout the university. Staff who go above and beyond to contribute to student experience, provide support and/or demonstrate leadership and teamwork.

Eight members of staff were commended for their outstanding teaching.

  • Joe Thorogood - Postgraduate Teaching Assistant Award
  • Jane Burns - Teaching/Academic Staff Award
  • Caroline Fertleman - Teaching/Academic Staff Award
  • Jennifer Marie - Teaching/Academic Staff Award
  • Jessica Gramp - Professional Staff Involved in Supporting Students' Learning
  • Joanna Strange - Professional Staff Involved in Supporting Students' Learning
  • #UCLChemAirPoll, led by Professor Andrea Sella - Team Award

UCLU Student Choice Awards

The UCLU Student Choice Teaching Awards gives students the opportunity to thank members of staff who have excelled in their role. These awards seek to recognise teaching and support staff as well as research supervisors. This year there were over 1000 staff nominations!

  • Sandra Martelli - Outstanding Personal Support
  • Judy Medrington - Outstanding Personal Support
  • Andrew Hayward - Outstanding Research Supervision
  • Clare Llewellyn - Outstanding Research Supervision
  • Angela Poulter - Outstanding Support for Teaching
  • Martin Abbott - Outstanding Support for Teaching
  • Alireza Mani - Outstanding Teaching
  • Cathy Elliot - Outstanding Teaching

One of the nominations for Martin Abbott really emphasises the contribution all winners have on the experience and success of students. "During a difficult period of our course, Martin did more than his role required and often reassured us when concerns or worries were expressed. He is warmly regarded by everyone in the class for his dedication to his job and sincerity towards us students."
