Dr Jenny Bizley honoured as World Economic Forum Young Scientist

28 June 2017

Congratulations to Dr Jenny Bizley, UCL Ear Institute, who has been honoured as a World Economic Forum Young Scientist, Class of 2017.

Dr Jenny Bizley

Every year the World Economic Forum (WEF) celebrates outstanding scientists under the age of 40, from around the world, in recognition of their contribution to cutting-edge research. Dr Bizley is one of 55 Young Scientists from 18 countries honoured in the 2017 cohort. She was selected for her public outreach work, including appearances at the Royal Society Summer Exhibition and Cafe Scientifique.

Dr Bizley is a Reader in Auditory Neuroscience, focusing on the neural basis of listening. She studies how the brain processes sound and how what we can see influences our perception of what we hear.

Dr Bizley attended the WEF 11th Annual Meeting of the New Champions (AMNC) in Dalian, China from 27th - 29th June. She and her fellow Young Scientists participated in sessions and workshops alongside government leaders, entrepreneurs, policy-makers and more, with the aim of contributing ideas to solving complex global challenges.

WEF says that the Young Scientists are "the most forward-thinking and advanced young scientific minds in the world" and that they are honoured for "their contributions to advancing the frontiers of science, engineering and technology."

The Young Scientists will now undertake a two-year programme, supported by WEF, to further expand their science communication and raise public awareness of their research.

Dr Bizley said, "I'm really excited to be participating in this year's AMNC meeting in China alongside other Young Scientists. This is a great opportunity to figure out how we as a community can work together to promote science to the public."
