UCL Global Citizenship Programme: a practical way to affect change in the world ucl.ac.uk/global-citizenship-programme/register" target="_self">2017 UCL Global Citizenship Programme, which brings together students from across UCL to explore our biggest global challenges.

Over two weeks from 30 May to 9 June 2017, the UCL Global Citizenship Programme connects students from across UCL to discuss problems like infectious diseases and rapid urbanisation.

But it's more than theory. The Programme also offers the chance to develop hands-on skills, from negotiation to presentation, photography and film-editing.

Anu Gulati, who took three different strands of the Programme during her undergraduate degree, said, "I liked the sound of doing something that would develop my professional skills. It also was a chance to meet new people outside of my course, to learn with and from them."

New skills

Anu, who is now studying for an MSc in Security and Crime Science, said, "The learning was so varied and helped me to develop so many new skills. It was really enjoyable to try out new things like photography, which I haven't done before in my studies."

The Programme is free to attend. It's open to all undergraduates and taught postgraduates. And it's not assessed.

There are ten strands to choose from, depending on your level of study.

Anu's advice on how to decide between them, "I would say think about your motivations and try to match them up with one of the strands. There are so many different options to choose from and you can do the programme in any year."

What it means to be a Global Citizen

Meet new people, develop new skills, get ready for your career, and gain a better understanding of what it means to be a Global Citizen - that's the UCL Global Citizenship Programme.

"UCL is so diverse, with so many different people studying so many different things I knew exploring global citizenship with my peers would be a unique opportunity," Anu said. "I've made some really good friends!"

So no grades, no exams, no cost. Just the chance to meet new people, hear new ideas, and contribute to solving our biggest global challenges.

Anu added, "It was such a good experience, I think more students should take the opportunity."
