Join Dementia Research: volunteers needed

26 October 2016

Join Dementia Research, a service launched at UCL, makes it easier for people to register for dementia research studies.

Quad lit Anyone 18 or over, with or without dementia, can register as a volunteer. UCL staff are encouraged to sign up to the service, which allows registrants to be matched to suitable studies, where you can decide on a case-by-case basis if you would like to take part in those studies or not.

There are a number of studies on Join Dementia Research currently taking place at UCL itself, including the Brain Signature study, which aims to find out what happens in the brain to produce symptoms experienced by people with frontotemporal dementia, progressive aphasia and related dementias. There is also the PADMMA study, which is assessing the levels of inflammation in the brain of people with early stages of Alzheimer's Disease.

Taking part in a research study can take many forms depending on the type of research, including completing questionnaires from your own home or even playing a smartphone app game that will help scientists understand in detail how our brains navigate space.
