UCL agrees rent rebate for students living in Campbell House West

27 May 2016

Residents in Campbell House West have been awarded a rent rebate for the 2015-16 academic year.

UCL agree compensation for students living in Campbell House West The rebate was awarded in response to a group complaint of unacceptable disruption and noise levels from neighbouring UCL construction work at 22 Gordon Street.

The students routed their complaint through official channels and this was fully investigated and upheld by UCL. The decision, which was reached on 12 May 2016, was made by UCL management engaging with the students affected through several residence meetings.

Compensation

All students that have been affected by the disruption during their stay at Campbell House West will receive the agreed amount of compensation based on their location within Campbell House West and the proximity to the building works, in addition to the type of room occupied and the number of weeks they were in contract.

This claim is separate to the payment awarded to those who were residents of Campbell House West during the 2014-15 academic year.

On behalf of UCL, I would like to apologise for the experience that the residents of Campbell House West faced during 2015-16. It's been regrettable that the ongoing construction work neighbouring Campbell House West impacted our residents, but I am pleased we have been able to reach a settlement that acknowledges the disruption our students have experienced.

This decision by UCL acknowledges and validates the claim of Campbell House West residents and the rent strike has had no bearing on the outcome.
