Participants needed for paid experiment on walking behaviour in cities: earn £15 Amazon voucher

Researchers at the UCL Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis are carrying out an experiment to understand walking behaviour and pedestrian experience in cities.

What does the experiment entail?

You will be asked to walk in parts of Oxford Street, and then return to UCL to answer a set of computer-based "quizzes". Prior knowledge of the Oxford Street area is not required.

During the walk you will wear a wrist-worn sensor measuring your body activity and carry a lightweight backpack with data-recording equipment. The experiment and questions should take approximately 2 hours (30 minutes preparation, approximately 1 hour walking and 30 minutes of questions).

Who should take part?

In order to participate you must :

  • not have extensive knowledge or have been Oxford Street very often.
  • be healthy with no history of psychiatric and/or neurological disorders;
  • have normal or corrected-to-normal vision;
  • be aged between 18-45 years old;
  • be comfortable to walk continuously for approximately 1hr.

How much, where and when?

You will receive a £15 Amazon Voucher as a form of reimbursement for your time.

The experiment will start in UCL Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis, 1st floor, 90 Tottenham Court Road, London, W1T 4TJ.

If you are eligible and interested, we invite you to choose a time-slot and sign up to the study.
