Junk in the trunk scheme: volunteer now

22 May 2015

Junk in the Trunk is UCL Student Accommodation's reuse and recycling scheme to try and ensure as many of the items that residents leave behind in June and September are reused or recycled, rather than sent to landfill or incinerated.

Junk in the trunk: volunteer now

Last year year's scheme collected about 3.8 tonnes of items, of which only 5% went for incineration. Many items were taken by other students and staff for reuse prior to collection by our reuse and recycling partner London Reuse Ltd.

What's involved?

UCL Student Accommodation is looking for volunteers to get involved in the project next month beginning on 9 June.

You will be helping to manage reuse areas at student halls and residences with weekly visits.

Time commitment involves an induction at Ramsay Hall 9 June (1.5 hours) and three to four weekly visits to sites between the 12 and 28 of June (2 to 5 hours per week).

Training will be provided and you will be reimbursed travel expenses you might incur while using public transport. You can take reuse items for yourself and you will be sent a report of the scheme later in the summer.

Location: UCL Halls of Residence - within walking/public transport distance of UCL campus .

Time/Commitment: 1-5 hours per week for a minimum of 3 weeks.

To apply, email Robert Vinall or goldsmid.house@ucl.ac.uk as soon as possible.
