UCL ChangeMakers 2015: a cause for celebration

5 June 2015

UCL ChangeMakers was recently launched to support staff-student partnerships that work to improve the student learning experience.

Derfel Owen, the Director of Academic Services, formally presented certificates, signed by the Provost, to the students and staff who had undertaken projects for UCL Changemakers In its pilot year, it supported 10 projects, all of which were initiated and led by students.

The scheme is also linked with Digifest and the Engineering Teaching and Learning Support Studentships. The success of the initiative was celebrated recently by students and staff, in a two-hour event that showcased their work.

Derfel Owen, the Director of Academic Services, formally presented certificates, signed by the Provost, to the students and staff who had undertaken projects. He said that a scheme like this benefited both the university and helped to develop students that were highly employable.

Empowering

Similarly, the students highlighted how empowering they found the scheme. They said that their student experience had improved, not only because of the changes their project had created but also through the experience of undertaking a UCL ChangeMaker project.

Next year, students and staff will both be able to initiate projects. There is also a real appetite to further develop the scheme in other ways.
