Seven questions with... Ellie Westwood

10 October 2014

This week we put seven questions to Ellie Westwood, third year undergraduate, BSc Psychology.

Ellie Westwood

Why did you choose UCL?

I knew I wanted to study psychology so I began researching universities that offered the best courses in this field. I found that UCL was one of the best universities in the world for teaching psychology, and it's also in London!

What is the most interesting thing you've done, seen or got involved with whilst at UCL?

I'm president of the Psychology Society here at UCL - this has given me the opportunity to get involved with a range of activities, including events and socials. It can be quite demanding as we have to budget, organise and host the events, but they are always really enjoyable and a great way of meeting like-minded people.

This year, we're arranging a series of careers talks - there are so many different careers out there for students to consider that it can often be overwhelming without some guidance. We'll be bringing in experts who will give useful information and helpful advice so watch this space!

Where is your favourite place on campus?

The Social Study Space in UCLU is great and really relaxed - I like working there as there's a bit of an atmosphere and a buzz.

Give us your top three things to do/see/go to in London:

Living near Brick Lane, it's great for shopping and all things vintage so I would definitely recommend visiting if you haven't already.

I love hot yoga - there's a place near Highbury & Islington that has student deals at the moment so it's the perfect time to join.

I've also been on a walking tour of London street art, which was fun AND free.

If you were to switch departments or courses at UCL, what would you study instead and why?

I didn't realise how broad geography was until recently - human geography would be great to study as it's a blend of lots of different disciplines, including psychology. Also, the opportunity to go on field trips is very tempting!

Who would be your dream dinner guests?

Margaret Thatcher - I'd love to find out the truth behind some of the stories (and propaganda), and a musician from the Shakespearean era as music has changed so much since then.

What would it surprise people to know about you?

Not only am I a Cheerleader, I do the heavy lifting and throwing parts too!
