Participants wanted for study on eating disorders and adolescent brain development

23 October 2014

Would you like to take part in a study investigating the relationship between maternal eating disorders and adolescent brain development? In order to investigate this we need to compare the brain structure and thinking style of a range of different adolescent girls between the ages of 11 and 15.

brain

We are looking for mothers who have never experienced a mental health disorder at any point in their lives, and have a daughter who is between 11 and 15 years of age.

As part of the study you will be asked some questions about your eating habits. Your child will be asked to complete some questionnaires, an IQ test, and some computer based games.

We will also conduct a brain scan with your child, and they will receive an image of their brain. This is noisy, but not dangerous.

This will take place over one visit of approximately 3 hours with time for frequent breaks.

Travel will be refunded, and the young person will receive £20 as a token of our appreciation.

If you are interested in taking part or would like more information you can contact the research team by email or phone at: Manuela Barona and 020 7905 2166.

This study has been approved by UCL Research Ethics Committee (Project ID: 5487/001). Any data you  provide will remain confidential, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
