Industrial action: boycott of assessment-related activity

3 November 2014

As you may have heard, the University and Colleges Union (UCU) has informed UCL that its members will take industrial action in the form of a comprehensive boycott of all assessment related activity from 6 November 2014.

This industrial action is in response to proposed changes to the universities superannuation scheme (USS), the pension scheme for staff across the higher education sector. You can read about these proposals here. http://www.employerspensionsforum.co.uk/

While we expect only a small number of staff to participate in the action, we know that you may be anxious about your assessed work. I would like to reassure you that UCL places the highest priority on the student experience and we know how important assessments are to you. We are making plans with heads of departments to minimise any effect of the industrial action on you and will be monitoring closely its impact.

We will keep you updated through messages in MyUCL and our students' web pages. Meanwhile, if you are concerned about the impact of the boycott on particular coursework please contact your Faculty Tutor of Head of Department. If you have more general questions or concerns about the action or are experiencing specific impact please email Student and Registry Services srs@ucl.ac.uk. We will respond to your concerns as a matter of importance.
