Support for UCL students during Christmas closure

UCL will be closed from 5.

UCL Quad lit-up 30pm Tuesday 23 December 2014 until Monday 05 January 2015. Over the Christmas period there is plenty of support still available to you:

Student Disability Services

There are links and lots of information on the Student Disability Services website to assist you at www.ucl.ac.uk/disability

Student Psychological Services

If you need support during the Christmas period you will find help and information at www.ucl.ac.uk/student-psychological-services/. If you feel you need crisis support please visit: www.ucl.ac.uk/student-psychological-services/crisis-support

Study Abroad

If you are a student currently abroad and you require emergency assistance please contact your travel insurance provider on the emergency number + 44 (0) 1273 400 850. If you will be staying in your placement over all or part of the Christmas period, don't forget that you can always contact the Global Student Assistance Programme should you need any advice or a listening ear. The service, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, provides independent, impartial support and guidance on a wide variety of legal, financial and personal matter.

Halls of Residence

If you are staying in UCL halls of residence over Christmas you will be able to follow the usual lines of communication for support. There will be a duty member of staff on call every day if you need any assistance, your hall noticeboard will have their contact details.

Things To Do Over Christmas

International Students House is a charity dedicated to British and International Students in London. They have lots of events on over Christmas, including Christmas Lunch on Christmas Day. You can find information about all of their events at https://ish.org.uk/events/

There are plenty of volunteering opportunities for you over the Christmas period so don't feel isolated, get out and get involved. There is a special Gala Christmas Lunch and afternoon of entertainment at the Marchmont Community Centre hosted for the centre's Older People's Group, volunteers and support staff. Christmas is a time for coming together to celebrate and have fun. If you feel alone or sad make sure you speak to a relative, friend or even call the Samaritans. The Samaritans can be contacted on 08457 909090 at any time and everything is discussed in confidence. Their website is www.samaritans.org.uk

In an emergency, always phone 999 or make your way to the Accident and Emergency Department at your local hospital. The closest Accident and Emergency Department to UCL is at University College Hospital.
