UCL launches Care Leavers Bursary for undergraduate students

To extend our support for care leavers, we have now launched a Care Leaver's Bursary for eligible undergraduate students.

UCL recognises that students who come from a care leaving background can face particular challenges while at university that their peers are less likely to face; one of which is funding their way through university. UCL has set up the UCL Care Leavers Bursary to enable and encourage students who live in or have lived in local authority care to pursue their undergraduate studies at UCL.

Awards are available to first-year undergraduates starting in the 2013/14 academic session for an initial three-year period. The successful recipients of this bursary will be awarded £1,000 per annum for the duration of their programme at UCL subject to satisfactory academic progress. (The bursary will be paid in addition to any funding received through the main UCL Bursary/NSP schemes).

Students who have indicated on their UCAS form that they have been in care will be contacted by UCL with further details of how to apply for the UCL Care Leavers Bursary. Any students who haven't indicated on their UCAS form that they have been in care are still eligible for the UCL Care Leavers Bursary and are encouraged to apply.
