Cruciform - Hub update and library closure

30 May 2013

UCL Estates are pleased to announce that Cameron Black have been appointed as contractors for the Cruciform Hub, the new teaching and learning centre for medicine in Bloomsbury.

The Cruciform Hub will open in Spring 2014 with a state of the art library, computer cluster, and suite of seminar rooms. Located at the heart of the UCL Medical School in Bloomsbury, in the lower ground floor of the Cruciform building, the Hub will be easily accessible for UCL students and staff, as well as NHS staff working at UCLH.

Detailed design work is almost complete, and the team would like to thank users of the Cruciform Pilot Area for their valuable input. Works begin from Monday 10th June and UCL Library Services, Estates and ISD have been working closely with the Medical School to maintain suitable provision for staff and students throughout the duration of the works.

The Cruciform Library is moving to the Science Library, 2nd floor. The Cruciform Library will be closed during the move, from Saturday 8th June, reopening on Monday 1st July. The Science Library will remain open and opening hours have been extended until midnight on weekdays throughout July, in order to meet the needs of the Medical Students who will be revising then. To enable the Cruciform Library move to the Science Library, Management Books and Periodicals are moving to the Main Library.

UCL Room Bookings are not taking bookings for lecture theatres LT01 and 02 during the summer period from 10th June to 8th September, with the exception of existing bookings which cannot be located elsewhere. The seminar rooms and computer cluster located in the Cruciform project area will be closed for the duration of the project, and alternative spaces in Bloomsbury will be used. The basement locker provision is being consolidated to locker room BC05A.

For staff based in the Cruciform building, the first neighbourhood meeting is Thursday 6th June at 10.00 in Lecture Theatre LT02.
