11-year old Billy Farha raises thousands for UCL

UCL has received a substantial donation from an 11-year old boy, who raised the money by doing a sponsored run around Hyde Park.
Billy Farha ran 7 km around the park, and raised over £12,000 in the process. The money will be given to the UCL Cancer Institute, which is dedicated to fighting cancer and contains the largest concentration of biomedical researchers in Europe.
This donation is the latest in a long line of philanthropy from the Farha family. Billy's father, George, is a UCL alumnus (BEng Chemical Engineering 1991), and a generous supporter of the university through the UCLU George Farha Café Bar and UCL's scholarship programme.
Speaking at an event to celebrate his donation, Billy said: "It's nice to help raise money. I just wanted to do something to improve the lives of children."
A plaque has been placed in the UCLU George Farha Café Bar to commemorate Billy's gift.
