Spotlight on Caterina Mora

What is your role and what does it involve?

I am one of the Research Facilitators for the School of the Built Environment, Engineering and Mathematical and Physical Sciences (BEAMS). The most important (and rewarding) part of my job is supporting researchers from within the School when they apply for funding.

This includes working with them to identify the best funder for their research idea, providing feedback on drafts and organising mock panels to help them prepare for interviews.

A big part of the role also consists of liaising with the different funders in order to better understand their priorities and strategies, and understand how they affect the College and our vision for its future.

How long have you been at UCL and what was your previous role?

I joined UCL less than six months ago, so I'm relatively new! Before that I worked within the Mathematical Sciences Programme at the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). I was responsible for the Pure Maths portfolio.

During my time at the EPSRC, I looked after a range of things, including Fellowships and Programme Grants and worked on a range of different projects.

What working achievement or initiative are you most proud of?

Up to now, I think my biggest achievement has been being involved in helping the teams who won the three EPSRC Programme Grants at the same panel last month. It was such an exciting time, and achieving 100% success rate at that panel was a great success for UCL!

What is your life like outside UCL?

I love travelling and seem to spend a lot of my time looking forward to my next trip! I am also a bit of a bookworm; I read whenever I can (including while walking from the train station to the office and back)!
