Videoooooh: Slade Exhibition
17 July 2012
The Slade School of Fine Art at UCL is hosting a multi-screen video exhibition to coincide with the London Olympics.
The exhibition, starting on Tuesday 24 July, consists of 212 one-minute long videos on the subject of 'Sport, Like/Dislike (truly Olympic)'.
Videos have been made by 193 artists from 33 countries, including ones by Slade staff and students Charles Gouldsbourgh, Henrietta Simson/Jo Volley,
Hira Mansur, Liz Rideal, Luke Schroder, Michael Duffy, Patrick White,
Pippa Connolly, Rebecca Merrill, Rob Cross, Sarah Bayliss and Kasia
Depta-Garrapach.
Videooooh is a collaboration between the Slade School of
Fine Art at UCL, The One Minutes Foundation, Amsterdam and the
Flemish/Dutch house de Buren, Brussels.
Exhibition organiser Michael Duffy (UCL Slade) said: "The
multicultural nature and speculative approach to the themes of the project
generate a wide diversity of outputs. These reflect the innovative ways in
which different cultures perceive sport and attempt to integrate it into their
lives.
"The resulting works reveal through humour, pathos, subjectivity, objectivity and keenly focused observation just how diverse our perception of sport can be and how the medium of video can be a convenient and immediate way of expressing ideas and capturing the moment."
A selection from the exhibition in London will travel later in 2012 to Belgium, Bolivia, China, Australia and Russia.
Videoooooh is open to the public and is showing at the Slade Research Centre, Woburn Square,
London WC1H 0AB from 12noon - 5pm, 24 July - 3 August 2012.
