Ten years of Student Volunteering at UCL

2 February 2012

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Volunteering Services Unit at UCL, the Wilkins South Cloisters is currently home to an exhibition of photographs showing some of the vast number of volunteering projects UCL students have been involved with over the last decade.

VSU

In 2002, UCL and UCLU set up the Volunteering Services Unit (VSU) to connect students with community projects across London. Since then, the VSU has since grown to be one of the biggest departments of its kind in the UK and has helped over 6,000 UCL students get involved with volunteering. This exhibition highlights the difference that UCL students have made across London over the last decade.

"I hope it will inspire even more students to contact the Volunteering Services Unit and get involved."

Professor Anthony Smith, Vice Provost (Education)

Professor Anthony Smith, Vice Provost (Education) said: "The exhibition really captures the fantastic work that our volunteers have done across Camden, London and beyond over the last 10 years. I hope it will inspire even more students to contact the Volunteering Services Unit and get involved."

The key to the VSU's success has been the large variety of activities on offer. The VSU has links with around 500 different partners across the volunteering world, with opportunities in areas such as campaigning, health, environmental, youth and cultural organisations and many more.

The exhibition is entitled Making a Mark:Ten Years of Student Volunteering at UCL and will be on display in the South Cloisters until 3 April. You can see a selection of the images at the Flickr gallery below.
