UCL signs China agreement

The main purpose of the agreement is the opportunity to seek new fuels using techniques developed by UCL's Biochemical Engineering Department and for this to be applied to the development of ultra-low carbon, zero-emission bus systems in major cities.

Professor Nick Tyler (UCL Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering) who is leading the project, explained: "This is a really exciting development, enabling multi-disciplinary engineering research to move on from molecules and enzymes and to be applied to the design of city transport systems which will have a very low negative impact on the environment."

"We have been developing this relationship as part of our involvement in the Chinese Low Carbon City Development project (supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology and by various cities in China) which grew out of an original investment by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council to fund research collaboration between the UK and China, in which UCL was a lead partner."
