Graduate Scheme Summer Schools in September

11 August 2011

UCL Careers Service is holding two graduate scheme summer schools this September.

Graduate scheme summer schools

The two summer schools will run for three days beginning on Wednesday 14 and Monday 19 September and will offer a bespoke programme of activities designed to give UCL's graduating students a headstart for schemes opening for applications in Autumn 2011.

Graduate schemes and internships are offered by many larger employers looking to recruit future talent and are seen as a fast-track route to career progression. There is often a high volume of competition for places.

The programme of activities at the summer school includes:

  • an introduction to the UK graduate labour market and the graduate schemes on offer
  • the opportunity to meet and hear from staff at organisations offering graduate schemes
  • an application 'toolkit' including workshops on CVs and applications, aptitude tests, interviews and other assessment centre techniques
  • a plan of how to approach the coming months and how to get the most out of UCL Careers Service.

David Carter from UCL Careers Service said: "We're always looking for ways to give UCL students the best possible chance of achieving their career goals. Competition for graduate schemes and internships has never been more intense and this summer school is an essential guide for success. It will give our students the chance to learn more about the opportunities offered, meet graduate recruiters and improve their application and interview techniques."

My Anh Nguyen from Procter and Gamble, who were present at last year's event, explained: "Running a summer graduate school for UCL students is a brilliant idea. This is an opportunity for them to learn more about how graduate programs work and for us to meet them and tell them what we are looking for. We will definitely be part of it again next year and we strongly encourage students to take part in those kinds of event as it will help them to improve the quality of their application."

The summer schools will run from 10am to 4pm each day and a returnable £25 deposit is required to confirm your place. To find out more and register for your place please visit the link below.
