EU launches €7 billion research funding package

11 August 2011

A set of research funding opportunities with a total budget of €7 billion has been launched by the European Union to stimulate research across several disciplines.

EU funding This is the largest financial package ever issued by the EU's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).

The new FP7 calls are largely designed to encourage innovation and research which tackles the toughest challenges of our era, particularly climate change, energy and food security, resource-efficiency, health and ageing populations.

Funding is also available for excellent basic research. Nearly €1.6 billion is being allocated to European Research Council grants to fund both senior research leaders and early-career researchers to carry out cutting-edge research projects, both individually and in teams.

The calls and supporting guidelines have all been published on the EU's FP7 research funding portal.

UCL researchers who would like more information on available EU funding opportunities are encouraged to contact UCL's European Research and Development Office.
