Where's Your Head At? UCL Union promotes mental health

UCL Union is running a series of events under the banner 'Where's Your Head At' 15-19 March to promote mental health.

In addition to the activities below, there will be a chill-out zone with bean bags and magazines in front of Gordon's all week, where students and UCL staff are welcome to stop by for a free massage every day from 12-2pm.

Monday 15 March

- Screening of Shine: the story of a child prodigy pianist whose father abuses him and his siblings. The pianist David suffers a breakdown and years later he starts playing a piano in a bar before finally returning to the concert hall. 6-9pm, Christopher Ingold Auditorium

- Open mic night: an evening of performances from a range of student societies. 7-11pm, Easy Js, 2nd Floor UCL Union building

Tuesday 16 March

- Screening of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: Joel is an emotionally withdrawn man and Clementine is his free-spirited girlfriend. They are attracted to each other despite their different personalities - and their former relationship, unremembered by either of them. A tale of love and memories. 5-8pm, Bentham SR3, Laws Building

Wednesday 17 March

- Techniques to combat stress: learn techniques you can use to tackle stress, particularly during the busy exam period, at this workshop. Places are limited. Please express your interest in attending to Nicki Challinger,  Welfare Officer. 10:30-11:30am, Conference Room, 2nd floor Bloomsbury Building

- Where's your head at fayre: Come to the North Cloisters for information and freebies from a range of groups. Free Bruneian food, green tea, cupcakes, and the opportunity to try your hand at bongos will be on offer. 11am - 3pm, North Cloisters

- Lecture on Bipolar Disorder: Hosted by UCLU Mind Society, Hugh Gurling, Professor of Molecular Psychiatry at UCL, will talk about bipolar disorder. 6:30-9pm, Harrie Massey Lecture Theatre

Thursday 18 March

- Lunch Hour Lecture on 'The Social Brain' by Dr Sarah-Jayne Blakemore (UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience): Adolescence is a time characterised by change - hormonally, physically, psychologically and socially - yet until recently this period of life was neglected by cognitive neuroscience. This lecture marks Brain Awareness Week 2010. Admission on a first come first served basis. 1:15-1:55pm, Darwin Lecture Theatre

Friday 19 March

- Psychosis training: a workshop by Camden Early Intervention Service on how to recognise and deal with the symptoms of psychosis. 10am - 12noon, Conference Room, 2nd floor Bloomsbury Building
