  • National 'Beacons for Public engagement' scheme
  • The UCL Public Engagement Unit has new funding available for inventive projects that bring the public and the UCL community together.

Individual projects can receive up to £20,000.

Dr Hilary Jackson from the UCL Public Engagement Unit explained: "This funding is a great way to connect people outside UCL with our research or teaching. It's designed to give UCL staff and research students an opportunity to test out a new idea, with support and advice from UCL Public Engagement and to help extend their networks within and beyond UCL. We hope staff and research students will contact us with ideas and we're happy to help shape applications in the run-up to the deadline."

For further information and funding criteria, follow the UCL Public Engagement link above.

If you would like to discuss ideas or individual projects, please email Hilary Jackson and Steve Cross at publicengagement@ucl.ac.uk.

Please note: The deadline for funding applications is Friday 9 July 2010.

    UCL context

UCL Public Engagement Unit works to support activities which encourage a culture of two-way conversations between UCL staff and groups outside the University. The unit is one of six in the UK to be funded by the Beacons for Public Engagement programme, which was set up by Higher Education Funding Council for England, Research Councils UK and the Wellcome Trust.
