On 14 March, the Friends of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) at UCL will join around 250 runners in Regent's Park to raise money for the medical charity.
Students at UCL have been collaborating with other Friends of MSF groups in and around London for the past six months to organise the event and have worked together to recruit as many people as possible from the student and staff body all over London. Over 80 of the runners taking part are members of UCL.
For the past three years, the Friends of MSF at UCL have been encouraging students and staff to run in a Regent's Park 10km Race each summer in aid of the international humanitarian medical aid charity.
Event coordinator Joel Cunningham (currently studying medicine at UCL) said: "We've been amazed by the enthusiasm that people have shown. With such a large number of runners we hope that together we should be able to raise at least £10,000 for MSF's work on our group 'Justgiving' page. We have now stopped selling entry tickets for the run, but we are still recruiting volunteers to provide much-needed help on the day."
Médecins Sans Frontières is a large humanitarian aid charity that works in over 60 countries around the world. It provides emergency medical aid to the victims of war, natural disasters and epidemics. With around 28,000 local and international employees located around the world, the charity offers essential assistance to those who need it the most irrespective of race, religion or political affliction.
Most recently Médecins Sans Frontières has been working non-stop in disaster-struck Haiti. It relies on private donations and fundraising events such as these to remain independent from governments or political groups.

UCL Context
UCL Friends of MSF (FoMSF) is a student-run society dedicated to raising awareness of the work of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and of humanitarian situations in general. Its advocacy has three goals: overcoming access barriers; challenging trade restrictions; and stimulating new research into neglected diseases.
This year, UCL FoMSF has hosted the National FoMSF conference at UCL with a presentation by the coordinator of MSF's Access to Essential Medicines campaign.
