  • An Italian nobleman falls from his horse during an 11th century pageant. When he regains consciousness he believes he is the medieval Emperor, King Henry IV. Encouraged in this belief by those around him, he plays out his illusion to perfection. Is this madness or a lifelong self-observing performance? Where does one draw the line between illusion and reality when the mask has moulded the face? For twenty years he has been humoured in his belief but today, a plot is being devised to shock him out of his madness…

UCL Union (UCLU) Drama Society, in association with UCLU Stage Crew, presents a production of Pirandello's 'Henry IV' in a new adaptation by Tom Stoppard at the UCL Bloomsbury Theatre. Maintaining the simplicity of Pirandello's dramatic line, Stoppard's adaptation brings a new energy and linguistic wit to this masterpiece.

The performances will take place on Thursday 5 March at 7.30pm and on Friday 6 March at 2pm and 7.30pm. Full price tickets are £10 (£5 for concessions) and can be purchased at the UCL Bloomsbury Theatre box office in person, online or over the phone by calling 020 7388 8822.

The play is directed by second-year students Alice Seabright (UCL Psychology) and Jess Cotton (UCL English), and produced by Aliya Abidi, a second-year student in UCL Psychology and Language Sciences.
