  • UCL has set up a system that deaf staff and students can use to raise an alarm or call for help in the event of an emergency.

The alarm system, which has been set up specifically for the Deafness, Cognition and Language Research Centre (DCAL) at UCL, can be used by any deaf member of UCL with a textphone and provides an example of best practice for other workplaces and educational establishments.

Deaf staff and students at DCAL and across UCL will be able to raise the alarm by dialling the extension number 51111 from a text phone and conveying the nature of the emergency.

Staff in UCL's security control room will then be able to receive the message and communicate with the caller to provide direct help or contact the emergency services on the caller's behalf.

If you would like to access the service please contact the security control room with details of your location and extension number.
