Professor Yvonne Rydin joins government architecture panel

Professor Yvonne Rydin (UCL Bartlett School of Planning) has been appointed to the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) Enabling Panel.
CABE advises the UK government on architecture, urban design and public space. Its panel of specialist enablers offer expert advice and support to organisations involved in projects for the built environment.
Professor Rydin will join over a hundred professionals on the panel, including architects, urban designers, planners, engineers, property and quantity surveyors. She will help CABE to develop its recently launched sustainable cities website and the associated learning programme. Her appointment comes just weeks after Dr Pushpa Arabindoo (UCL Geography) joined the panel.
Professor Rydin said: "Ensuring sustainability of our urban areas is vital for combating climate change. I am delighted to join other members of UCL in supporting CABE's efforts in this area."
Professor Rydin is UCL Bartlett School's Professor of Planning, Environment and Public Policy. She specialises in urban sustainability and urban governance, including processes of strategy development, public participation, the role of social capital in planning, and the analysis of policy discourses.
CABE's activities overlap with those of the school, particularly its push to make cities and new urban development more sustainable, by aiming for zero-carbon status, respecting environmental limits and contributing to social wellbeing.
Professor Rydin has conducted consultancy projects for the UK Departments of Communities and Local Government, and for Innovation, Universities & Skills, the Greater London Authority, the Higher Education Funding Council for England, the National Audit Office and the Civic Trust. Her work on these projects has spanned policy analysis, futures thinking, indicator development, environmental risk and planning and sustainable development in higher education.
