Partnership for Excellence celebration

All members of the UCL teaching community are warmly invited by Professor Michael Worton (Vice Provost, Academic & International) to attend UCL's annual Partnership for Excellence celebration on 5 November, which marks the university's collaboration with City & Islington Sixth Form College (CANDI).
The event is an opportunity to publicly thank those who are already closely involved with City & Islington, and to encourage anyone who is not yet familiar with the Partnership to learn more. All are invited to an informal drinks reception to celebrate the continued success of the Partnership, from 5pm in the Haldane Room.
A short presentation will be followed by drinks and the opportunity to meet with CANDI staff in your subject area. For those who have established a relationship with CANDI, this event is an opportunity to meet socially with colleagues (and perhaps to discuss possible activity for this year); if you are new to the Partnership, this is a chance for us to facilitate introductions and explain more about how your expertise can support the Sixth Form College.

Background to the CANDI partnership
UCL established formal links with City & Islington Sixth Form College in 1999, and, since that time, UCL departments have made a real and lasting contribution to education at City & Islington through:
• regular lectures and masterclasses in a wide range of subjects for sixth
• form college students, delivered at CANDI's Angel campus
• summer schools and other activities (lab visits, lectures) at UCL
• the provision of access to UCL Library Services for Year 13 students
• support for the admissions process, including advice to CANDI students on
• university entrance, including entry to Medical School
• UCL tutors and mentors: over 30 UCL students are assigned to work with
• CANDI students each year, and a number of postgraduate students are involved
• in running extracurricular subject clubs.
Our relationship with CANDI has also supported policy development at an institutional level - on issues such as admissions testing and the reforms to the post-14 curriculum - and at subject level, as colleagues on both sides gain an insight into the challenges facing each sector, and the issues around transition between school and university.
Please note that UCL remunerates departments for their widening participation activities with CANDI: £500 for each event, up to a maximum of £1500 in each academic year.
