  • André Simon 2007 Food and Drink Book Awards
  • 'Delizia!', the 2007 title from Dr John Dickie (UCL Italian) that explodes the myths surrounding Italian food, is runner-up in this year's André Simon Food and Drink Book Awards.

Dr Dickie's book, which explores the epic history of Italians and their food from papal cooking to the birth of pizza, received a special commendation, earning Dr Dickie a prize of £1,000. 'Delizia!' came second to 'The River Cottage Fish Book' by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Nick Fisher.

A wide variety of food-related publications are eligible for the awards, including recipe books, biographies, guides, polemical works and reference books. The awards were established in 1978 in memory of André Louis Simon (1877-1970), the leader of the English wine trade for most of the first half of the 20th century, one of London's leading champagne shippers and president of the Wine & Food Society for 33 years.
