UCL has been ranked as the top UK participant in the European Commission's Information Communication Technology (ICT) Programme, the largest part of the Commission's research funding programme.

Under the latest research funding programme - or Framework Programme 7 - 52.2 billion euros are available for projects in research, technology and development. The largest portion of this, 9.1 billion euros, falls under the ICT banner. UCL, the UK's leading participant in the programme, and the 12th largest recipient globally, has secured 8.45 million euros for projects since the start of 2008.

Michael Browne, Head of European Research & Development at UCL, commented: "This feat underpins and reflects UCL's commitment to strengthening Europe's scientific and technology base, and maintains the university as a global leader in ICT."

UCL and FP7
UCL has benefited in other ways from the European Commission's 7th Framework Programme funding. Another recent success has been the 10 million-euro integrated HIV/AIDS project led by Professor Deenan Pillay. The ICT successes also follow on from earlier funding awards under FP7.
