Professor Michael Worton Vice-Provost (Academic and International) welcomed a delegation of senior representatives from universities and government agencies in Vietnam to UCL on 16 October.

The Vietnamese delegation to UCL was part of a group accompanying the Deputy Prime Minister and Minster for Education, Professor Nguyen Thien Nhan who was visiting the UK under the auspices of the British Council.

The delegation was headed by Professor Nguyen Xuan Vang, President of Hanoi University and included representatives of the Government of Vietnam, the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training and the South East Asian Ministers of Education Organisation.

Discussions centred on potential future research collaborations between UCL and Vietnamese universities, which are most likely to develop in the areas of biomedical and life sciences, and in engineering.

During the course of their visit to the UK, the Vietnamese delegation also held discussions with the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills to support Vietnam in developing and implementing their proposed international PhD training programme.

UCL is supportive of the Vietnamese Government's aim to provide doctoral training programmes for selected members of staff from Vietnamese universities and will be exploring this further with the Ministry of Education and Training.
