Russian Ambassador visits UCL SSEES

17 May 2007

The Russian Ambassador, His Excellency Yury Fedotov came to UCL last Friday to unveil an exhibit in the new UCL SSEES building at 16 Taviton Street.

This comprises a magnificent set of silverware, attributed to Faberge, which was given to Sir Bernard Pares following the 16-day visit to Britain in 1909 of a delegation from the Third Russian Duma. He subsequently became the Director of SSEES in 1922. Several members of his family, who donated the silverware in 2000, were present for the ceremony and to see it placed at last on public display.

In attendance at the unveiling were UCL's President and Provost, Professor Malcolm Grant, Vice-Provost (Academic & International), Professor Michael Worton and current SSEES Director, Professor Robin Aizlewood.
