Archaeology and Heritage of Africans in the New World

A study day is being held at UCL on Saturday 31 March to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Britain's abolition of the slave trade.

The event is free and members of the general public are welcomed. Ten international academics will make presentations on slavery in Western Cuba and the US, ethnic identity in the Americas, resistance culture and plantation pottery, among others. Dr Kevin MacDonald (UCL Institute of Archaeology) will introduce the event and speak on African architecture in Louisiana.

The study will be held at the UCL Institute of Archaeology, 31-34 Gordon Square, 10am-6pm.
