Stopping smoking

11 January 2007

The government's new legislation to ban smoking in all public places will come into force on 1 July 2007.

In light of this, UCL's Occupational Health unit are organising a series of workshops to help staff and students give up smoking.

Getting support to stop smoking increases your chances of successfully quitting by four times. In light of this Occupational Health are hoping to set up an onsite support group which will run for seven weeks each Wednesday from 1-2pm. They need at least twenty participants to make this viable and anyone who is interested should contact the team at ohsadmin@ucl.ac.uk or telephone +44 (0)20 7679 2802.

In addition to the planned group sessions, the occupational health team will be putting staff and students in touch with Stop Smoking advisors in the Camden area who are able to advise about options for stopping, and can provide letters of support to smokers' GPs, for aids such as Nicotine Replacement Therapy and Zyban, if appropriate.
