UCL top university: 'Pink Paper'

6 February 2007

Readers of the 'Pink Paper', the UK's leading gay and lesbian newspaper, have voted UCL as the best university in the country for the second year running.

Richard Woloshen (UCL Human Resources), Chair of the UCL Sexual Orientation Working Group (SOWG), said: "Being awarded this accolade for the second consecutive year reinforces UCL's commitment to being part of Stonewall's Diversity Champions programme, and enhances UCL's reputation as a good place to work and study for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender staff and students."The SOWG is UCL's consultative body on employment issues concerning sexuality. There are a number of initiatives and other groups at UCL that are concerned specifically with sexual orientation, as well as those dealing with more general equalities work.

UCL Union's LGBT Society is the focal point for LGBT students and has around 1,200 members. It organises events of various types that let members make new gay and lesbian friends, and enjoy socialising in a principally gay and lesbian group.
