Shanghai media visit Chinese UCL students

16 February 2007

Mr Pan Tian, Assistant Director of the Jiefang Daily Media Group of Shanghai, visited UCL on 16 February 2007 to speak with Chinese students about their experiences studying at university.

Chinese media visit Mr Tian was welcomed to UCL by Professor Moira Yip, Pro-Provost for China, Hong Kong and Macao, who underlined the importance of China as a partner country for UCL and the great value that UCL places on its links with Chinese universities. UCL currently has 1,111 students from China, studying in all faculties from affiliate to doctoral level.

The student delegation was led by Yiqiang Zhao, who is studying a PhD in electrical engineering and by Dr Haitao Ye from the London Centre for Nanotechnology. The student group shared their experiences of studying at UCL and living in London and conversation flowed in both languages. Mr Tian later visited the main library and made the acquaintance of Jeremy Bentham.

Mr Tian and his party are in London to take part in the London-China festivities organised by the Mayor of London marking the Chinese year of the Golden Pig. UCL will be holding its own Chinese New Year Celebration on the evening of 20 February, when distinguished guests from the Chinese community in London will be welcomed.
