New Director for Division of Medicine

Professor Patrick Maxwell has been appointed Professor of Medicine and Director of the Division of Medicine.

Professor Maxwell is currently Professor of Nephrology at Imperial College London. He has won a number of accolades for his work, including from the Royal College of Physicians (Goulstonian Lecturer, 2001), University of Oxford (Title of Reader in Nephrology, 2000) and the Renal Association (Martin Lockwood Award, 2000).

Commenting on the appointment, Professor Ed Byrne, Executive Dean of UCL Biomedicine and Vice-Provost (Health), said: "This is an extremely important position for both UCL and for UK medicine. We are extremely fortunate to have recruited a physician-scientist of Patrick Maxwell's calibre and I am confident he will provide outstanding leadership for internal medicine at this pivotal time for UCL and for London."

Professor Maxwell will take up his new post on 1 March 2008.
