From A to Z&Я

27 April 2007

'From A to Z&Я', an exhibition of posters in the Latin and Cyrillic alphabets, will be on display in the South Cloisters of UCL from 2-4 May 2007 to mark the accession of the Republic of Bulgaria to the European Union.

Letter 'R' in the exhibition

The Latin Alphabet collection has been created by international graphic artists including Seymour Chawast, Shiego Fukuda, Paul Davis, Heinz Edelmann, Paula Scher, Michael Bierut, Pierre Mendell, Peter Saville, Thomas Geismar, Yarom Vardimon, Rosmarie Tissi and Woody Pirtle - who all share a commitment to the ideas of the renowned Pentagram design studio.

The Bulgarian artists Bojidar Ikonomov, Bojidar Ionov, Georgi Lipovanski and Liudmil Tchekhlarov have designed the Bulgarian alphabet poster collection, highlighting the controversial advantages and disadvantages of the use of the Cyrillic alphabet.

The exhibition is jointly sponsored by the Bulgarian Embassy and the UCL School of Slavonic & East European Studies with the support of the Vice-Provost Professor Michael Worton.
