Terrorism policy conference

19 October 2006

The UCL Constitutional Law Group will be holding a one-day conference on 'Terrorism: The Policy Cycle and its Scrutiny' on Friday 24 November.

The event, held at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies on Russell Square, will address on four key issues: the scrutiny of terrorism policy and legislation within Parliament; the monitoring, assessment and dissemination of intelligence within Whitehall; independent review of the operation of the system; and the role of the judiciary. The conference's focus on how policy is developed, how it feeds into the system and how it is scrutinised, offers a unique glimpse at the workings of government and the civil service in legislating for this controversial area.

Dawn Oliver, Professor of Constitutional Law at UCL, will be opening the event, and among the line up of speakers are leading barristers, academic lawyers, civil servants and government legal advisors.

The conference fee is £75 and includes lunch and refreshments. For information, contact Jacqueline Bennett at UCL Laws. Heavy demand is expected so those interested are advised to book early.
