Roll-ups are healthier, one in four smokers believe

A quarter of all smokers think hand-rolled tobacco is better for you than ready-made cigarettes, according to a survey out today.

Released to mark World No Tobacco Day, the research from the NHS Smoking Helpline found that the number of smokers rolling their own has also shot up in recent years. …

Professor Martin Jarvis [UCL Psychology and Epidemiology & Public Health], said: "Smokers are attracted to own-rolled because they offer a cheaper nicotine fix.

"But they should not delude themselves that they are somehow more natural or less toxic.

"In fact, because more dependent smokers with higher nicotine needs are particularly attracted to own-rolled, the risks of smoking related disease are even greater than from packeted cigarettes." …
