Anglo-German Foundation grant awarded to UCL Economics

18 May 2006

UCL Economics has secured a large grant from the Anglo-German Foundation (AGF) to finance a research programme designed to explore issues surrounding sustainable growth in Europe.

'The Economics and Politics of Employment, Migration and Social Justice', is directed by Professor Christian Dustmann (UCL Economics), and co-directed by Professor Steven Machin (UCL Economics) and David Soskice, of the London School of Economics. The programme was one of 84 initial proposals entered for consideration by the AGF. Four winning entries share funding worth £3m, given by the foundation as part of its 'Creating Sustainable Growth in Europe' initiative.

Professor Dustmann said: "The programme will initiate research in a very important and topical area, with focus on two of Europe's largest economies, Germany and the UK. It brings together researchers from both countries, and will provide a serious and innovative comparative political and economic analysis. We are very pleased to have been successful with our application."
