Masterclass held on empirical analysis of market outcomes

17 March 2006

The most recent masterclass held by the Centre for Microdata Methods and Practice (cemmap) featured Professor Ariel Pakes (Harvard University) on 'Recent Advances in the Empirical Analysis of Market Outcomes'.

The event, on 16 and 17 March 2006, included sessions on: recent advances in the empirical analysis of static models of industry equilibrium; the use of inequality estimators; problems involved in analyzing dynamic models of industry equilibrium; and recent methods for using the implications of those models to estimate parameters leading to evidence based policy analysis.

Professor Andrew Chesher (UCL Economics) is Director of 'cemmap', a joint venture between UCL Economics and the Institute for Fiscal Studies, and funded by the Leverhulme Trust. He said: "Professor Pakes' masterclass attracted dozens of experts from around the world. He is the world's leading authority on the application of industrial organization theory to explain the strategic interactions of firms and the development and evolution of industries."
