MAPS summer studentships available

23 March 2006

The UCL Faculty of Maths and Physical Sciences (MAPS) has secured funding for five summer research studentships.

The Dean's Summer Student Scholarships are available for international undergraduate students to spend a two-month period conducting research alongside internationally recognised research groups in the faculty. Applications must be received by 30 April 2006.

The scholarships are available for the areas of chemistry, earth sciences, mathematics, physics and astronomy, and space and climate physics. Students can choose the research group they are interested in, and international travel will also be covered.

The summer research programme is also open to UK students, and most departments have funds to cover a few summer students. Alternatively, students can apply to the Royal Astronomical Society or the Nuffield Foundation for a bursary.

Programme organiser Dr Louise Harra (UCL Mullard Space Science Laboratory) said: "Deciding what to do after your undergraduate degree is always difficult, and these studentships are an excellent way to discover if a research career is for you."
