By monitoring the brain activity of gamblers, researchers at the UCL Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit have determined that risk-taking to explore new - and potentially more fruitful  - options uses a higher-level region of the brain than that associated with making safe bets which are known to reap rewards.
