New academic journal: Opticon1826

20 June 2006

Graduate students at UCL are launching a new academic journal catering to UCL's faculties of Arts & Humanities, Built Environment, Laws and Social & Historical Sciences.

'Opticon1826', a twice-yearly publication, is now looking for contributions for its first edition, to be published on 31 October 2006.

Editor-in-chief, Gesche Ipsen, explained the concept behind the interdisciplinary journal: "'Opticon1826' will provide a forum in which disciplines can cross paths and have an opportunity to engage assumptions outside their own field of study. Its goal is to stretch the parameters within which we are commonly tempted to consider the world around us, both inside and outside UCL."

The theme of the first issue is the journal's title, and contributors are invited to interpret this however they wish, although Gesche suggests that possible topics might include neologisms, subversion or anagrams of the journal's name.

Contributions, which should primarily be in the form of articles and reviews/commentaries should be sent to the editors by 29 September 2006. Creative images and texts are also welcome. To find out more, use the link at the bottom of this article.
