Tony Benn talk at the Bloomsbury

3 February 2006

Britain's longest serving MP and former Cabinet Minister, Tony Benn will speak at the UCL Bloomsbury Theatre on 20 February 2006.

'An Evening with Tony Benn' will see the famously outspoken politician reminisce on his personal experiences, offering the audience a mix of politics, and opinion, which will culminate in a question and answer session.

Benn was born in 1925 and retired from the House of Commons in May 2001 after serving 50 years in parliament, many of which were spent on the front benches. He held cabinet posts in both the Wilson and Callaghan governments from 1964-1979, including as Minister of Technology, Secretary of State for Industry and Secretary of State for Energy.
